Tuesdays & Wednesdays, January 31 – February 8 | 6-9pm $385 tuition & materials Discover the magical, colorful world of silk dyeing and batik. Spend four evenings (with optional open studio time on the weekend) learning about color, surface design, silk painting, wax resist, shibori, and other silk dyeing techniques, culminating in a final prayer-flags project. Dyes used during class are appropriate for silk and wool, as well as fabric blends that contain silk and wool. Finished pieces will be dry cleaned, to remove wax, and then dye set. Wednesday – Friday, January 25 – 27 | 10am-1pm $210 tuition & materials Students will learn the art of fusing glass to metal to create beautiful jewelry and metal embellishments. Using opaque and transparent glasses, the class will explore various enameling techniques such as stenciling, sgraffito, and enamel pencils. Students will complete numerous glass-on-metal designs, including an enamel pendant. Tracey Belt first encountered jewelry making in an elective metalsmithing course while studying at the University of New Mexico. She was drawn immediately and completely to the craft that would become her career and passion. Mondays, January 23 – February 13 | 5:30-8:30pm $300 tuition & materials Using the copper foil technique, students will explore the world of stained glass. After looking at different types of glass and learning some stained glass history, students will choose a design for their stained glass projects. Then they’ll choose glass to fit the project, cut each piece, apply copper foil, solder, and then solder. All students will emerge with at least one stupendous piece of stained glass art! Ah Haa will supply eye protection, latex gloves and aprons. Please wear close-toed shoes and long sleeves.
The Sheridan Arts Foundation presents Dustbowl Revival live in concert with their reinvented and bolder free flowing sound. Inspired by Burning Man, The Telluride Fire Festival will be centered around a free public and interactive experience of fire artistry. The fire displays will occur from when darkness falls to late evening on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. These displays will be held both in Mountain Village and on 'Main Street' and all stationary art intallations will be available during the day for viewing. The course ends with one evening of glazing instruction, and two additional open studio sessions to finish up projects. All classes and open studio hours take place on weekday evenings, from 6 – 9pm. Mondays, January 9 – February 27 | 6 – 8pm | Burlesque is a celebration of femininity. Women of all ages come together for a fun-filled journey into this incredible art form, ultimately empowering their creative, sensual, feminine beings. Telluride Theatre’s own Sasha Sullivan and seasoned Burlesque veteran Melissa Harris are excited take new students on an eight-week journey into the world of burlesque. Starting with the basics – history, dance moves, striptease, creating a character, and owning your space – students will then develop their very own burlesque character and walk away with a full routine, a set of pasties, and a portrait.
