Friday, May 1, 2015 – Sunday, May 3, 2015 Young People's Theater presents "Beauty and the Beast" adapted and directed by Jennifer Julia starring 25 students grades 3-5. It's the classic tale of Belle, a book-loving beauty who doesn't quite fit in the local villagers. When she finds herself a prisoner of an enchanted castle (where clocks, candlesticks and featherdusters walk, talk and sing!) Belle meets the terrifying Beast (a Prince who is under a sorceresses' spell). Over time, Belle and Beast learn valuable lessons about compromise, celebrating each others' differences and the power of friendship. Opera’s most enduring tragic double bill returns in an evocative new production from Sir David McVicar, who sets the action across two time periods but in the same Sicilian village. Marcelo Álvarez rises to the challenge of playing the dual tenor roles of Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana and Canio in Pagliacci . Rae Smith ( War Horse ) has designed the moodily atmospheric 1900 village square setting of Cavalleria , which transforms to a 1948 truck stop for the doomed vaudeville troupe of Pagliacci .
