Telluride Jazz Festival ranks among the world’s most memorable music festivals. Since 1977, Telluride’s majestic perch high in the San Juan Mountains has been the site of an annual event produced by the Telluride Society for Jazz. The intimate format and superb music along with the opportunity for invigorating alpine recreation come together to create a truly unique weekend experience. Join Dr. Tom Romero, Associate Professor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, as he explores the struggle for human civil rights in Cold War Colorado. The talk will cover the legal and cultural history of race and racism in our state: KKK involvement in the 1920s, anti-Mexican sentiment in the 1930s, and racially restrictive covenants in the 1940s in order to contextualize the Cold War struggles for equal employment law and fair houseing, and well as the school integration battles of the early 1970s.
