January 15-19 2015 . A NEW Telluride festival, The Telluride Fire Festival will be centered around a free public and interactive experience of fire artistry. The fire displays will occur from when darkness falls to late evening on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. These displays will be held both in Mountain Village and on 'Main Street' and all stationary art intallations will be available during the day for viewing. Tuesday, January 13, 2015. 6:00PM Visit the Sheridan Opera House for an inspiring evening of history, science and innovation hosted by the Telluride Historical Museum and the Pinhead Institute with the conjunction with the Smithsonian's Places of Invention program. The evening will open with the first public screening of "Hydro Power," a 30-minute documentary by Rocky Mountain PBS about the Ames Hydroelectric Generating Plant. The film will be followed by students giving TED-style presentations on topics describing a specific moment of innovation in Telluride.
Indie-rock artist Tony Furtado will be playing live at the Sheridan, showcasing his banjo, guitar and vocal skills. The show starts at 8:30pm, costing $20.00-30.00 per person. Saturday, January 10th, 2015. 3:00pm-5:00pm This introductory workshop is a chance to be your own knitwear designer by learning how to develop a pattern. We’ll explore gauge/needle size, stitch patterns, color, and sizing to come up with an original design for a sweater, vest, ect. The first part of the class will be for instruction and the second part you will be working independently with one-on-one help from the instructor, as needed. This class is meant to be a springboard for starting to design on your own. Participants should have good basic knitting skills and bring their own yarn and needed. This exhibition explores the present day culture of horse racing in the US. The series of photographs captures the three worlds within the realm of horse racing: the handlers, the gamblers and the spectators. The Apron shows the underlying structure and everday expiriences behind this American pastime.
Mondays, January 5-February 23. 6-8pm Woman of all ages can celebrate femininity with a fun-filled class about this art form of dancing to empower the creative, sensual and feminine beings. Sasha Sullivan from Telluride Theature will start with the basics of history, dance moves, striptease and creating a character. Students will leave this 8-week journey with a burlesque character, full routine, set of pasties and a portrait.
