So for anyone who loves point ballet, there was a real treat for you in Telluride on Sunday October 18th. The State Street Ballet performed Cinderella at the Palm Theatre. The show was lots of fun. Of course, all I need to have a good time is guys in drag, popcorn, and kids in cute costumes. Seriously- guys in drag. Cinderella's stepsisters were men dressed in hoop skirts and silly accessories, which provided fantastic comedic relief rarely seen in point ballet.

I guess when you think about it, what kind of a ballerina wants to play the ugly stepsister? As far as the kids in cute costumes, the kids were provided by Telluride's Dance Academy and they were wonderful. Small children were dressed in owl costumes to tick away the time as Cinderella approached her midnight hour. Some of the dance academy's more advanced students also had the chance to test their skills on stage next to members of the touring ballet company. The show, complete with elaborate costumes and a nice set, was a welcome addition to an otherwise mundane Sunday afternoon and it seemed that the performance of this classic fairy tale was enjoyed by all ages. Things to look forward to at the Palm Theatre: Met HD Turandot November 7th and Cirque le Masque Carnivale December 26th and 27th.
