Bel canto superstars Joyce DiDonato and Juan Diego Flórez join forces for this Rossini showcase of vocal virtuosity, set in the medieval Scottish highlands and based on a beloved novel by Sir Walter Scott. DiDonato is the “lady of the lake” of the title, and Flórez is the king who relentlessly pursues her, their vocal fireworks embellishing the romantic plot in this Met premiere production conducted by Michele Mariotti. Marcelo Álvarez rises to the challenge of playing the dual tenor roles of Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana and Canio in Pagliacci . Rae Smith ( War Horse ) has designed the moodily atmospheric 1900 village square setting of Cavalleria , which transforms to a 1948 truck stop for the doomed vaudeville troupe of Pagliacci . The Wild West Fest is a small festival specifically designed to share Telluride with 50 inner-city youth from Big Brother, Big Sisters of America and Boys & Girls Clubs from across the United States. During their week in Telluride, the boys and girls participate in drama, dance, horsemanship, fly-fishing, golf, and the Rock & Roll Academy. The Wild West Fest was created by the Sheridan Arts Foundation, which raises $50,000 each year to run the program. 2015 Balloon Fest The 32st Annual Telluride Balloon Festival will be held the weekend of June 5-7. June 6 is the most active day beginning with an early morning launch from Town Park and ending with the "glow" on Main Street in the evening. Saturday afternoon, there will be a photography workshop geared specifically to photographing ballons. Sunday morning the balloons are scheduled to launch again from Town Park. It is possible to take a ride on a balloon either Saturday or Sunday, but there are a limited number of slots. Usually, the crowds are thinner on Sunday morning. You will improve your chances by being willing to help inflate the balloon, so get there by 6am and ask to help. Most years, at the balloons will launch at least one of the two days, but there's no...
