Hardrock 100 Endurance Race

The Hardrock Hundred Mile Endurance Run is an ultramarathon of 100.5 miles, 33,050 feet of elevation climb, 33,050 feet of descent for a total elevation change of 66,100 feet ran at an average of over 11,000 feet. The race is held on a loop course, including 4WD roads, dirt trails, and cross country terrain in Southern Colorado's San Juan Mountain range.  The run begins and ends in Silverton, Colorado and travels through Telluride, Ouray and the ghost town of Sherman, and crossing 13 major mountain passes in the 12,000 to 13,000 foot (elevation) range. Completion of the event is marked by kissing the Hardrock, a picture of a ram's head painted on a large stone.  This is a graduate level endurance run. Get your sweat on for a good cause before the rest of the day's festivities!  The 4th of July kicks off with the Telluride Foundation's Rundola, a recreational foot race to benefit the Telluride Foundation. Participants begin at the base of the gondola in the town of Telluride and finish at the top of the ridge adjacent to the San Sophia gondola mid-station.  Runners follow the Telluride Trail (4.600 feet long, 40 feet wide, 13% uphill grade) or can simply bushwack to the finish. The elevation gain is 1,810 feet from start to finish. Participants are grouped by age and gender into categories for the race.  You can register for the Rundola  here .  

Telluride Plein Air Festival

The Telluride Plein Air Festival draws artists from around the country to paint "en plein air" (in the outdoors) and exhibit and sell their work.  Their scenes of Telluride and the surrounding areas simultaneously capture the mountain spirit of this special place and celebrate the art of painting in the outdoors.  A three-day Art Exhibition and Sale will be held July 2-4th and will feature the works of flower-filled meadows, majestic mountains, and colorful Telluride scenery. Divine Openings Mountain Silent Retreat

Let go of struggling, suffering, and conflict and let the Divine take charge. Guests of this weekend retreat will be supported by nourishing gourmet meals each day, as well as meditation, music, walking, dancing, inspirational reating and tools to navigate the conscious mind and emotions. Facilitator Yolanda Del Hierro will use Lola Jones' book "Things Are Going Great in my Absence: How to Let Go and Let the Divine do the Heavy Lifting" as a resource and guide. The process is not considered "work" or "processing." The goal is to awaken to the larger self, which has no issues to fix, heal, or clear.  The Earthstar Retreat Center in Norwood is hosting the event, which starts at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 23 and ends at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 25.

Telluride Art Walk

The Art Walk takes place on the first Thursday of every month (excluding May, November, and December). Over twenty venues host this event to showcase new exhibitions and artists. A free self guided Art Walk map (Gallery Guide)  can be found both online and at partcipating venues. The event is a great opportunity to stroll around town, visit the local galleries and businesses, and to mingle with the artists and the supporters of arts in the community. The Art Walk runs from 5-8 p.m., and most of the pieces are shown until the next event.         

'Marcellus Shale' Project

"Marcellus Shale" is a work of musical theatre about a rural community dealing with the effects of fracking and oil and gas development. Marcellus Shale is also the name of a sedimentary rock formation rich in natural gas, and in this play, the sedimentary layers are a metaphor for the histories and lives of the residents of the community.  Telluride Theatre was invited to participate in a project funded by the National Endowment for the Arts & Theatre Communication Group. The "Marcellus Shale" script is used to help participating theatre groups, communities, and educational institutions produce "civically-engaged theater."
