This   Ah Haa   class offers a creative approach to ceramic tile mosaics, with instructor and local artist Flair Robinson. Students will be able to mix it up, experiment, and play with all sorts of interesting and unexpected materials. The course will include a huge selection of materials, but students are also welcome to bring in their own favroite bits and pieces to incorporate into their work. Telluride Tribute Fest

Presented by The Sheridan Arts Foundation, the Telluride Tribute Fest is a weekend of tributes to some of the greatest bands in rock and roll history. The 4th annual Telluride Tribute Fest kicks off in March. It’s a bit early to have information about the 2017 Telluride Tribute Festival, but it’s not too early to book lodging. Many veteran festivarians book their condos and hotel rooms a year in advance and the town of Telluride is mostly sold out six months before the festival! Painting Dramatic Light in the Landscape

At this Ah Haa class, visiting artis Tim Diebler will show students how to take their paintings from ordinary to extraordinary by carefully selecting natural lighting effects. Students will learn to represent glaring sunlight, silvery moonlight, rainbows, and other natural phenomena. This class is a great opportunity for artists to advance their painting techniques. Painting Dramatic Light in the Landscape takes place from 1-6 p.m. on Friday through Sunday, March 17-19. Tuition is $325 and does not include materials.

Leftover Salmon has been making music for a quarter century, and their unique blend of almost every genre of music — bluegrass, rock, zydeco, folk, soul, jazz, blues — becomes even more seamless over time. Art History Grab Bag

Visiting lecturer Paul Evans will offer an art history grab bag," three evenings of discourse on different topics, for free at the Ah Haa School for the Arts . The first talk is called "Three Outsiders: Warrior, Poet, Saint," and will explore the lives of T.E. Lawrence, Sylvia Plath, and Francis of Assisi, who he calls both misfits and visionaries. The second lecture is titled "Divine Madness: Poets, Painters, and Bipolar Illness," and focuses on the bond between creativity and mental illness, the curse and blessing of feeling too much. The final discussion will be "All You Need is Love: The Archetypal Beatles," and provides a Jungian and musicological analysis of the world's best band, and explains why the group still matters. Decorative Relief Tiles and Tile Mold Making

This class at the Ah Haa School for the Arts will teach students to make their own designer tiles. Using sgraffito, stencil, relief carving, and other techniques, participants will learn a variety of styles and options for making tiles. Instructor Matthew Adams will demonstrate how to make molds from tiles so that you can create a series of the same design. Finished tiles will be glazed and then fired in a kiln, so they will be ready to use in fun home projects.  Decorative Relief Tiles and Tile Mold Making sessions are from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday, March 14-16 and Tuesday and Wednesday, March 28-29. Tuition is $300.

Turkuaz

Like the classic ensembles of jazz and funk music from the heyday eras, Turkuaz relies on all its nine members to build their vigorous and exuberant sound. Turkuaz hails from Brooklyn and plays a unique and forceful blend of techno, funk, R&B, and soul. The band sounds a little bit like P Funk but with an alteranative vocal edge, just a tinge of Peter Gabriel or David Byrne. Turkuaz is sure to light up the Sheridan Opera House stage and fill the venue with its powerful groove. It is important for a portrait artist to understand the structure of body and face, but it is equally important to be able to evoke the character and personality of a subject. This fun class at the Ah Haa School for the Arts uses costumed models — whether it's a ballerina, period attire, Western wear, or something else — to create vivid and interesting tableaus for the artists to paint. Students will use oil paints and will be instructed in composition, stroke, edges, and color, some previous painting experience is necessary.  The class will be held from noon until 3:30 on Friday through Sunday, March 10-12. Tuition is $275 and students will also need to purchase required materials. Painter Julee Hutchison is the instructor.

Cousin Curtiss is a one-man show, but his sound is big enough to fill the deck of Gorrono Ranch and the surrounding slopes. He uses a loop to layer his sound, adding guitar and rhythm tracks to give it texture before chiming in with is extraordinary vocals. He is a versatile singer and performer who makes even old cover songs sound new and interesting. Pippin

Telluride Theatre will bring the classic musical "Pippin" to life, featuring an all-female cast of 15 talented dancers, singers, and performers. The play centers around the character of Pippin, a young prince and heir to the throne, and how he struggles to find meaning in his life through political power and on the battlefield. The score was written by Grammy and Oscar Award winner Stephen Schwartz, and the production pays homage to the orginal director and choreographer, Bob Fosse.  Pippin plays March 9-12, and March 16-19 at 7 p.m. at the Black Box at the Palm Theatre . Donavon Frankenreiter is a professional singer/songwriter and surfer. He is entering his second decade as a musician and his music continues to transform, from breezy, light surf rock to more deeply emotional lyrics and sound with his latest release "The Heart." Especially intimate and heavy is the last track on the album, "California Lights," which is a tribute to Frankenreiter's father, who battled and succumbed to cancer. He is circling the Hawaiian islands and the West on this latest tour, and this week, he will perform at the Sheridan Opera House .
