Marcellus Shale is also the name of a sedimentary rock formation rich in natural gas, and in this play, the sedimentary layers are a metaphor for the histories and lives of the residents of the community.  Telluride Theatre was invited to participate in a project funded by the National Endowment for the Arts & Theatre Communication Group. The "Marcellus Shale" script is used to help participating theatre groups, communities, and educational institutions produce "civically-engaged theater." The local performances are held in collaboration with the 2017 Mountainfilm Festival. The play was written by Paul Zimet and Ellen Madow. "This is a huge honor...

Telluride Theatre first resurrected the concept of burlesque seven years ago, empowering a class of eleven women as they learned to shimmy, strut, strip and tease on stage. The fundraiser was an instant success, and every year the tradition repeats with a new class. "It has become a celebration of the feminine, a way for women in town to bond, have fun, and explore a different side of themselves," says director Sasha Sullivan.  Burlesque now includes three nights of performances: Cheap Thrills (March 29) is the culmination of the class, with each student showcasing their work, the character and piece they've created (as well as the pasties they made); Hollywood Burlesque (March 31 and April 1) features the advanced veteran performers from the previous classes, and pays homage to the...
